Blue Bag Recycling

General Guidelines:

  • Use blue bags only for recyclables, NOT for garbage
  • Use TWO blue bags for recycling
    • -1st bag for paper products
    • -2nd bag for cans and plastics
  • Tie tops of blue bags to keep recyclables clean and dry
  • Do not mix paper with either cans or plastics; use 2 blue bags
  • Look and the bottom of plastic containers for the plastic codes.
Blue bag recycling at curbside is a cooperative effort between Gil's Sanitation Inc. and the Solid Waste Department.
1st Blue Bag - Paper Products
  • Newspaper and Inserts
  • Brown Corrugated Cardboard
  • Brown Grocery Bags
  • Paperboard (cereal boxes, tissue boxes, etc.)
  • Office Paper
    • All non-glossy paper
    • Stationary
    • Envelopes
    • Computer paper
    • Photocopy paper
    • Magazines/Catalogs
    • Glossy paper
    • Phone Books
    • Hardcover books
    • Paperback books
  • NO food contaminated items
  • NO wax or plastic coated items

Examples of paper items that you can NOT recycle are:

  • Paper plates and cups
  • Paper towels
  • Tissue Paper
  • Gift bag paper
  • Wrapping paper

2nd Blue Bag - Cans & Plastic

  • Tin Cans
  • Steel Cans
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Pie Plates
  • TV Dinner Trays
  • Metal Lids


  • Milk, Juice, and Water Jugs
  • Detergent Bottles
  • Bleach Bottles
  • Peanut Butter Jars
  • Cooking Oil
  • Salad Dressing
  • Mouthwash

Examples of plastic items that you can NOT recycle are:

  • Walmart/Shopping bags
  • Pellet bags
  • Yogurt containers
  • Butter containers
  • Saran wrap
  • Styrofoam
  • Tarps
Rinse cans and plastic containers
Discard caps and neck rings
Labels are okay
Flattening is not required


  • Aerosol Cans
  • Plastic Lids
  • Wide Mouth Containers to include butter containers, yogurt containers, and cool whip containers.
  • food contaminated items (all containers must be clean)
